Recycled Shell Candles

I got this book on candle making which has a project for making sea shell candles. I have been collecting bits of wax from other candles in a jar. Tonight or tomorrow, I am going to make some of these candles.

Materials needed for candles

Candle wax
Sea Shells
Candle wicks
Pan for melting wax
Scents for Candle if scenting candles
Candle coloring if you prefer colors

The original recipe for the candles called for making them using new wax. I had a lot of small bits of candle wax left over from several old candles so I thought to put the old pieces of wax into an old mayonaise jar with a lid. After several months, I have collected a lot of used leftover candle wax. So, I am hoping to recycle this wax into a new project. When this project is completed, I will share the results with all of you on the forum. Hopefully, I will have some very nice shell candles. If I have extra wax and wicks, I might make some small jar candles as well. Reusing old candle wax might make a fun project and at the same time eliminate some waste left over from old candles.

Re: Recycled Shell Candles

The recycled shell candles turned out very nice. The color ended up a pearl gray on my second batch of candles and the first batch was a nice olive green. These colors look very nice with the colors of the shells.

I forgot to mention a few points in my original post. One point make sure your candle wax does not get too hot. Second point make sure you use a bit of the wax to attach the wick to the base of the shell. Allow the wick to set in the base before pouring more wax into the shell. A kitchen knive or a toothpick might be needed to push the wick base onto the shell. When pushing the wick base to the shell, apply some pressure until the wax starts to set. A good way to get enough wax to the base is to either pour a small bit of wax directly on the shell base or dip the wick base directly into the melted wax or you can do both. I used all the methods to test what worked the best. The end results depended a lot on the surface of the shells.

If you plan to use these candles for magickal work or rituals use new candle wax not recycled wax. Recycled wax candles are best for common household candles. If you have used candles for rituals the wax will be empowered with the energy for the ritual. In my own opinion, it is not a good idea to recycle ritual candles.
